Managing mental health within families with a focus on the impact of Covid-19

March 9 - March 10

Managing mental health within families with a focus on the impact of Covid-19

Covid-19 and its impact on children and the family

Outline

These 2 half days training events will run from 9:00- 13:00 on the 9th and 10th of March

The COVID-19 Pandemic has shaken our realities, routines, habits and in some cases our entire existence. Wim Van Lancker, a sociologist at the University of Leuven in Belgium, describes it as “a social crisis in the making”, since we do not know exactly what awaits in the coming months or years.

It is creating numerous insecurities in what we believed were our ‘ taken for granted’ solid foundations, those we held familiar (health, work, comforts, etc). It is aggressively challenging our perceptions, beliefs and effecting our relationships with ourselves, others, and the world.

This surreal situation has the potential to create emotional turmoil which makes us feel helpless and vulnerable in the midst of ongoing bio-psycho-social challenges.

This training is an opportunity to help professionals gather a better awareness and management of the overwhelming emotions brought by this challenging moment.

Professionals require specific competencies to be able to help families through these difficult moments, so as to avoid dramatic repercussions on mental health in children but also in adults who feel disarmed and disoriented.

The main learning objectives of this training are to help professionals acquire:

  • Practical tools to be able to identify difficulties in children and adolescents to prevent them from turning into problems or pathologies
  • A brief-systemic-strategic understanding of the different family models, present in our contemporary society
  • Strategic communication competencies that can render a simple dialogue, an advanced medium for persuasion and transformative change
  • Strategies to help families help their children manage their emotions triggered during this stressful moment
